In Europe, you only have to throw a stone up in the area and watch it land to find the nearest church, be it this religion or that, the house of many a God has been built in almost every town and city from the North to the South, East to the West for century after century and it still continues today.
Whilst in Italy, unsurprisingly so, we found ourselves at the foot of many a catholic church and on occasion we would venture inside, once inside you can more often than not find some incredible pieces of art commissioned by those with the most money in that day to pay the best artist of the area for their finest work.
If you ever want to see great art, open a church door (whether you’re religious or not) and step inside to see the glory of art from many generations.
Here’s just a scattering of some of the churches we’ve passed on our travels over the past year or so.
