Weekend Photo Theme is a weekly photography article where Dale or Franca choose a theme, select 5 pictures to sum that theme up & tie them together with their interests of Architecture, Art, Design & Travel.
I’m one of those old fashion types who likes the smell of an new paperback, the feel of the weight in my hand, the inside cover scribblings of other lovers of a great book in a used copy, enjoying the beauty of an old book with it’s zany Seventies design, blowing the dust off a bottom of the pile book that may have one day been someones prized bedtime read – each and every one, I love it all.
I’m one of those people who’ll never give them up. I get excited seeing a book shop in a new city and borderline plead with Franca to let me go inside even though I’ve probably got five books in my backpack already weighing me down, but I can’t help it. Sometimes I just like to flick through and just admire the covers and the typography upon them, sometimes I like to just flick open the first few pages and try to get an idea from the book.
At times there are gems, other times there are duds, but I guess one of the great things of being on the road for long periods of time on this bus or that plane means there’s always plenty of reading time to get through it and onto the next one.
And I know that most travellers now carry e-book readers, it does make plenty of sense weight wise (not forgetting the battery, the amount of books, etc), but I guess I’m just an old romantic at heart.
Here’s just a couple of book covers from our travels so far that took my fancy because of their classic or modern design.
